The price of a new three bedroom
house ranges from $100,000 to
$150,000 and $150,000 to $200,000
for a four bedroom house. Average
construction cost is $80.00 per
square foot. Available financing
options include conventional, VA,
THDA for first time home buyers,
FHA, and FMHA, as well as other
financing.
Paris Housing Authority
There are 196 units of conventional
low-rent public housing in Paris:
Morningside Village/Rt. General
Roland Parkhill Apartments (24
units), Washington Courts (Tige
Robinson Apartments) (32 units that
have just been renovated), Vernon
Place (140 units which were designed
and built; 90 for family and 40 for
elderly and handicapped.) Vernon
Place is local in walking distance
to Inman School. All units have
central air and heat.
The elderly/handicapped units are
carpeted, have shower stalls with
grab bars, and each
bathroom has an outside alarm with a
switch near the floor that can be
used to summon help, if needed. The
Community Room is completely
furnished with color TV and kitchen
facilities.
A playground with new basketball
goals and tennis courts is located
at all three projects, plus other
playground equipment.
The Paris Housing Authority
Office/Community Building is located
at 917 Minor Street, which has two
classrooms, a kitchen, restrooms and
office space, which is leased to
Northwest Tennessee Head Start. The
Paris Special School District (PSSD)
and Northwest Tennessee Head Start
have collaborated together at the
beginning of this school year to
provide instruction for
approximately 20 students and
serving breakfast and lunch to their
students. Space is also provided at
924 John Lee Drive for a home based
Head Start program and 922 John Lee
Drive is leased to the University of
Tennessee/Martin Branch, as an
Infant Stimulation Satellite Center
that provides educational assistance
to developmentally disabled or
delayed children in Henry and Benton
Counties.
TENNESSEE CAREs Early Head Start
which operates in Gibson, Henry and
Weakley
Counties of Northwest Tennessee,
funded through Tennessee State
University, has a five bedroom unit
at 1001 Reynolds Street, in which
the Paris Housing Authority’s Board
of Commissioners along with
Department of Housing and Urban
Development approved the donation of
the space to be used as an outreach
to the community. Early Head Start
Program (EHS), is designed for 0 - 3
years of age children, and is a
federally funded community-based
program for low-income families with
infants, toddlers and pregnant
women. The program and services are
designed to be family centered and
community-based.
Paris Housing Authority provides
safe, decent and affordable housing
to approximately 400 low income
residents of Paris.
